The Andrews Government is improving train stations across Victoria as part of a massive $2.7 billion building blitz to kickstart our economy.

Member for Bayswater, Jackson Taylor, announced Heathmont Station will share in more than $23 million to improve stations and stops on the public transport network.

Planning works for each upgrade are underway and will determine what specific upgrades need to take place at each station.

Some of the works that will take place include installing better seating, upgrading passenger information, toilet facilities and improving accessibility for passengers.

The better stations fund is part of $192 million worth of new projects across Victoria’s public transport network, helping to boost jobs and deliver more reliable train and tram services.

Other works include $10 million worth of security and fencing at high risk areas across the regional and metropolitan network, improving safety and minimising impacts to services due to animal strikes or trespassers.

The package also includes $62.6 million to enhance maintenance of tram and V/Line rolling stock to support ongoing operations.

This economic response is in addition to the current $620 million public transport maintenance program already underway across the state.

While public transport continues to run, there are only five reasons to leave home – shopping for food and supplies, care and caregiving, exercise, and study or work and visiting friends and family – with a maximum gathering of up to ten outdoors and up to five visitors in your home.

If you must travel on public transport, Victorians are asked to try and travel outside of the peak to increase physical distance. Don’t travel if you are unwell, practice good hand hygiene and maximise the distance between yourself and other passengers where possible.
