A re-elected Andrews Labor Government will deliver a massively upgraded Boronia Station, decking over the rail trench to create new pedestrian and community spaces that will bring more life to the heart of the precinct.

Boronia Station is perfectly positioned in the centre of the suburb, but the rail trench and below-ground station make it hard for locals to access and get around the station.

That’s why a re-elected Andrews Labor Government will invest $60 million to completely revitalise Boronia Station.

Decking over the southern rail trench will create new open space for the community, as well as better connections to the surrounding shopping strips. The decking will also create direct pedestrian access from car parking to the Dorset Road shops, making it easier for locals to get around central Boronia.

The station itself will undergo a major overhaul with façade upgrades, improved lighting, CCTV, platform upgrades, and furniture to create the modern, safe station that Boronia deserves.

Disability access will be improved with upgraded paths, more handrails and tactile surfaces.

The bus interchange will receive new shelters and furniture so passengers can be protected from the elements and can transfer from train to bus services in comfort.

Together with other projects to revitalise the suburb, the station upgrade will create a more liveable community space for locals in Boronia.

We kickstarted the project to upgrade Boronia Station with $500,000 in funding for the planning works.

In total we’ve invested more than $3.28 million to make Boronia an even better place to live, including $1 million for streetscape renewal on Erica Avenue, $250,000 to upgrade the laneway alongside the station and $150,000 to deliver four murals in the Boronia CBD.

Labor is delivering better public transport facilities and services for families in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs. We’ve got rid of two level crossings at Bayswater on the Belgrave Line so locals spend less time stuck at the boom gates and more time with loved ones. We’ve delivered a new station at Bayswater, including extra bike parking.

We’re running more trains more often on the Belgrave Line, with 18 more weekly services now compared to 2015.

Only Labor is doing what matters – delivering the upgraded station Boronia needs and deserves.

“Boronia Station is at the centre of the suburb, but it’s hard for locals to get around the rail trench and underground station. That’s why a re-elected Andrews Labor Government will deliver a massive upgrade that will put decking over the southern trench, creating new open space for the community.”
